Air filters for laboratories

Good air quality is very important at all times, but in laboratories it is even more important.

Laboratories are always held to high hygienic requirements. For example, analysts must adhere to dress codes and nothing may be consumed in a laboratory. High demands are also made on air quality. Not only must the temperature in a laboratory be constantly regulated, but the air quality must also meet various requirements to prevent contamination of chemical samples. Good filtration supports the secure work of the analysts and ensures a clean working environment.

To meet the extreme indoor air quality requirements, filters with a minimum rating of ePM1 70% are recommended. Based on the location of the lab, it can go up as high as ePM1 90%.

How is it determined which filters are needed in a laboratory? Eurovent has developed a system to determine which filter should be used for which application. Based on the so-called ODA and SUP classes, advice is given on the minimum quality of the filter.

ODA stands for outdoor air quality and this depends on the location. In an industrial area, the air quality is often worse than in a wooded area. Because the laboratory must meet high hygienic requirements, it falls into SUP class 1. Therefore the filter must at least have filter class ePM1 70%. This table shows the different classifications per ODA class.
